Ganesh Festival – An Opportunity to Plant the Seeds of Global Healing

On this Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees are preparing to welcome Lord Ganesh with the same devotional fervor as ever. The challenges that humanity has put up with this year has not dampened the spirit of devotion.

Saarvajanik Ganeshotsav—the People’s Festival of Lord Ganesh—was instituted by Lokmanya Tilak as a means to rally the collective force of society and kindle the fire of freedom. He conceived the idea of transforming the Ganesh worship being held in every home into a community worship. This served as the seed for events that eventually led to India’s freedom.

In the current situation of social distancing, we all need to come together in a different way—not physically, but by rallying our intentions together for global healing. This is most essential considering the challenges that we face, be it the pandemic or the fear and anxiety surrounding it.

Collective prayer done with deep feeling by masses at the same time becomes extremely powerful and can create wonders on Earth. Positive change effected at the mental level can have a transformative impact on the physical world. If thousands of devotees pray at the same time from wherever they are during these ten days, it can bring about the much-needed miracle!
