Or should we say, what is the real miracle that happened because Jesus did not perform any miracle on the cross? Can we comprehend it? An attempt to do so is worth it because it can change our lives.
A man was strutting along the beach with a rifle in his hands and a dog running alongside him. He looked up into the sky, aimed his rifle, and shot at a bird flying high over the waters. The bird dropped into the sea and his dog ran over, fetched the bird, and came running back to him. An amazed bystander exclaimed, “What a miracle!” The man pompously looked at the bystander and said, “Yes, I know. It takes some practice to shoot down a flying bird.” The bystander said, “No… No… I was talking about the dog. How could it run over water? That was amazing!” to which the man replied, “Oh! That’s because the poor thing can’t swim.”
Here, the dim wit of the man is very clear. Is it not? But truly, a vast majority of humankind’s wit today is at this level or even lower when it comes to understanding the true miracle that Christ performed by not performing a miracle on the cross. Most see the crucifixion of Christ as a sad event or, at the most, they recognize his seeking of forgiveness on the cross for his perpetrators as a superhuman act of compassion. But these acts were far more significant.
A closer look will reveal a much higher purpose. Why would Jesus walk into a situation fully knowing what was going to happen, unless the will of the Father and the future effect of the events to unfold on mankind were not crystal clear to him? Can you imagine a life that was meant to culminate in such a manner that would make humanity take on a new dimension? What was the true purpose and impact of the whole sequence of events that transpired by the will of Nature (the divine) in which the body-mind of Christ willingly played the most crucial role? One cannot imagine the strength of soul and character that was needed to pull off such a complete surrender to the will of the Father. How many generations of humans would the choice of Christ send its ripples into? Surely, all this is far more significant than calling it a great sacrifice or act of love as we easily label it. Most of us don’t even understand the meaning of sacrifice or love the way Christ embodied them.
The book “Why Jesus Didn’t Work a Miracle During Crucifixion” is an attempt to bring out the true depth of the extraordinary significance of Christ’s final act. While Christ performed several miracles, including bringing the dead back to life during his period of teaching, why did he not escape crucifixion even when he had the power to do so easily? The book attempts to capture and deliver the essence of this message with a story of three magicians. The unsaid impression that the story leaves behind forms the underlying pulse of the book. The book is compiled from discourses on Easter day by Sirshree, a contemporary self-realized master of our times.
The book is an account of hidden insights into Christ’s messages to humanity from the climactic events – from when Christ spent with his disciples leading to the crucifixion; followed by the events of trial and condemnation and the true meaning of his answers in the trial; and then what Christ said and did during the crucifixion; and finally, after the crucifixion and the period of Resurrection, an unparalleled event in human history.
There are two strong messages that emerge from the book for all of us to imbibe into our lives. The messages are also directed especially to the youth who have yet to learn to handle power in their life.
- The seed must first die in the soil, to sprout new life.
- Never use your power against the purpose of your existence.
You will also gain insights into the timeless declaration of Christ – “Thy will be done!” and know exactly why Jesus prayed for his persecutors – “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.”
Many are born with talents, and many accomplish things with hard work in their lives. But the development of one quality is the purpose of every human life – Inner Strength. This is the power either to act or exercise self-restraint exactly as is needed at any given moment. It is the power to fulfill the need of the hour, no matter what the circumstances are. Life spares no one this lesson. The expression and demonstration of this quality by Jesus emerge most prominently from this book.
Read it to get a feel of the true mission of Jesus Christ on earth. Read it to understand how the same pure Consciousness has tried to speak to humanity through all self-realized masters of all religions of the world. Only in this case, is it called Christ Consciousness.
